Fornells is a small fishing village located in the north coast of the island of Menorca, which is recognized internationally forits magnificent gastronomy, its precious natural port of crystal clear watersand for the variety of water sports which may be practised along its wide bay, which has been declared a marine reserve.
At the village you may contemplate several fishers’ white-washed houses, relax in its clear and quite waters and enjoy the kindness and calmness of its inhabitants.
Along the bay it can be found four magnificent unspoiled coves, accessible by sea, three small islands and a salt flats located at the very foot of the bat. All these elements form a natural landscape of first level, protected at European level.
The wideness of the bay permits the practice of aquatic sports such as windsurf, kayak, water ski and sailing. Moreover, the protection of the marine environment and the clearness of the waters make the practice of diving and snorkel an unforgettable experience.
Furthermore, Fornells is considered the gastronomic capital of Menorca, and, in particular, of the famous lobster stew (Caldereta de llagosta), an exquisite dish for which Fornells has become gastronomically famous allaround the world.
Fornells is located in a strategic location within the island of Menorca. It is located only a few kilometres from the famous unspoilt beaches of the north shore of the island, which are Cavalleria, Binimel·la and the beach which is considered one of the best –if not the best –beach of Menorca: Pregonda. Fornells is also located at the same distance from the two mainurban centres of the island: Mahon and Ciutadella.
The area in which the apartments are located offers excellent conditions for the practise of land sports such as horse-riding and hiking. A golf course is located a few kilometres away.
A special date to visit Fornells is the second half of July, since this is when the village celebrates the festivals of the Verge del Carme −saint patron of fishermen–and the festivals of St. Anthony the Abbot, in which the horses prance and dance to the beat of the typical music while the crowds applauds and tries to touch them.
